Eddie Murphy as Oscar host 2012

Ratner also points out that Murphy is a cinephile. "He loves movies. Ratner is finishing work on the comedy Tower Heist, which he directed and stars Murphy.

Maybe Oscar producer Brett Ratner thinks he has an ace up his sleeve. Finally, there's Ratner's knack for attracting top-notch talent. In the official academy announcement Tuesday, Ratner called Murphy a "comedic genius," saying he was "one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever." He said Murphy will "bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show."
