Robertson remained a popular TV and film actor from the mid-1950s onwards. He later found a new generation of fans as Uncle Ben in the Spider-Man movies. Robertson’s career spanned more than 60 years and included Hollywood movies, Broadway shows, television dramas and commercials. Robertson was soon offered an acting role and made his theatrical debut in Three Men On A Horse (1947). When the tour ended Robertson worked as taxi-driver and docker before landing another role in a touring production of Mister Roberts (1948). In the early 1990s Robertson returned to Hollywood. Robertson worked steadily over the decades and was performing well into the 2000s. In the course of his career, Robertson appeared in some 60 films.
From 2002 he played Uncle Ben Parker in remakes of the Spider-Man series. In his private life, Robertson played tennis and was an avid pilot who loved aviation. Cliff Robertson, the handsome actor who played John F. Kennedy in "PT-109," won an Oscar for "Charly" and was famously victimized in a 1977 Hollywood forgery scandal, died Saturday. Born Sept. 9, 1923, in La Jolla (San Diego County), Mr. Robertson was 2 when adopted by wealthy parents who named him Clifford Parker Robertson III. Mr. Robertson's first performance for Columbia, "Picnic," was impressive, even though his screen pal, William Holden, stole the girl, Kim Novak. In 1957, Mr. Robertson married Jack Lemmon's ex-wife, Cynthia Stone, and they had a daughter, Stephanie, before splitting in 1960.
