Open Question: Is the landlord liable?

I tripped and went through a glass door, cutting the tendons on my foot and creating deep lacerations across my legs and face. I have also been asked to cover the cost of the door. The accident occurred at a friend's rented unit. I was wondering whether the landlord's insurance would cover at the very least the damage to the door as it was unmarked and obviously not very strong (I'm a small person) or made from saftey glass.
