Open Question: when a family member dies when does there family get life insurance ?

my best friends granpa is very sick and they fear the worse . unfortunately they dont have enough to cover the funeral costs for when that day comes , he has life insurance but they dont know how long does it take for them to recieve his life insurance benefits .. does anyone know about this ??
