Open Question: If told we take your insurance and then told do not do you have to pay?

I went to see an acupuncture referred by my co worker who has my same insurance. I told him I can only see him because he takes my insurance. We saw me for 10 sessions and then told me he does not take my insurance but he will give me a discount. Do I have to pay him?
