Andrea Bocelli Wows Central Park Crowd With Thursday's Performance

Andrea Bocelli wowed thousands with his performance in New York City's Central Park on Thursday, which he has heralded as an important career milestone.

Bocelli considers the concert, attended by an estimated 60,000, an important rite of passage made by his contemporaries Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, who also have performed on the park stage.

"Most of (my) important milestones happened in New York," the 52-year-old told Reuters through an interpreter before the concert.

The Italian tenor, who has sold 70 million records worldwide, has performed at other famous New York venues including Lincoln Center and Madison Square Garden.

Speaking about the success of the free concert, he said, "Things are all things one would hope for. This is something I'm doing for the city," Reuters reports.

Concert revellers, including billionaire Donald Trump, were entertained for more than two hours.

The musical accompaniment by the New York Philharmonic was a blend of well-known arias such as "La donna e mobile" and Italian and American pop songs.

Late in the show, the crowd rose to their feet when Celine Dion arrived on stage to sing a hit duet she recorded with Bocelli, "The Prayer,” reports Reuters.
