Here's the situation. I had COBRA, it ran out. I got a HIPAA creditable coverage certificate. I am getting married next month and going on my spouse's plan, but that will be after the 63 days. I need something in the meantime because I have a preexisting condition. According to my state's insurance department, the only options available to me are two plans 1.) cheap one with only emergency coverage and 2.) the "works" plan which is very expensive. I would like to know if the cheap plan will itself count as HIPAA creditable coverage for when I go on my spouse's plan. When I called them they told me it would be up to the other plan so they couldn't tell me. When I asked if they issued certificates of creditable coverage for the cheaper plan the rep didn't even know what that was. Can anyone answer this?
