Open Question: Insurance question Help?

I was recently in a car accident that was not my fault. We agreed that the other person would pay for the damages. I went and got a quote and then told the other person what it was, they said they could not afford that and to put it through insurance. I did that today and then got a voicemail saying now she wants to pay for it but I have already started the claim process. Do I have to follow through or can I cancel the claim I have made? I am pretty sure once it has been filed it has to go through.
