I had a car accident, not my fault and Allstate (other car driver) admitted their liability. I hired an attorney to take care of the negotiations. Last week, the paralegal called me and told me that they have final offer from Allstate and told me that My portion of the payout is $5000 of total $15000 settlement and 1/3 will go towards the medical bill and 1/3 will be attorney fee. Since I wanted to verify that the actual settlement offer was indeed $15000 (I was expecting alot more thatn that), I asked the paralegal to send me a copy of settement offer from Allstate (she said she received final offer from Allstate that morning via fax).. At first, she was hesitant and trying to convince me that it would only show the amount, not the breakdown, but I pushed it so she said she would email me a copy of it that day. Of course I did not hear from her until today, 4 days later, another paralegal whom I have not spoken with, sent me a Word file, detailing how the settlemtn will be broken down. She did not send me the actual copy of settlement offer from Allstate and emailed me that breakdown and told me to sign it or if it's too low, let them know so they can file a lawsuit and told me that this was Allstate's final offer. WTH... i really would like to know how much ALLSTATE offered to them (I don't think it's $15000, I am 99.9% sure it was alot more than that because my medical bill alone was $8000)... Do i have right to ask them to send me the copy of the offer or am I asking for so much? If they don't send it to me, is there way to verify that offer amount with Allstate? Thanks for reading and look forward to your input.
